‘Godfather’ of Australian triathlon dies

Australian triathlon pioneer and Sunshine Coast local GARTH PROWD has died.

The 65-year old passed away surrounded by his family who made the decision to switch off his life support, a week after he was injured in a road bike accident in Barcelona during a family holiday.

GARTH sold USM events in 2009, after running the company for 30 years.

Mooloolaba traffic operation

Police say too many drivers are still risking their lives and the lives of others on our roads…after a disappointing traffic blitz at MOOLOOLABA.

On both Friday and Saturday nights- officers from the Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch, the Nambour Road Policing Unit and the Brisbane Dog Squad conducted Operation Lockdown.

More than six thousand drivers were breath tested.

Officers also conducted 128 saliva tests.

Twenty four drivers were allegedly caught drink driving, 22 allegedly tested positive to driving with methyl amphetamine or cannabis, and seven people were charged with 14 dangerous drug offences.

Hinterland fatality

A motorcyclist has died, while riding at PEACHESTER.

The 61-year old man was travelling east on Peachester Road just before 10am yesterday, and collided with a four wheel drive travelling in the opposite direction, as it turned right onto STORRS ROAD.

The motorcyclist died at the scene.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw a red bike travelling along the stretch before the crash to contact them.

Man charged over Mooloolaba assault

A Sunshine Coast teenager is lucky to be alive, after allegedly being knocked out by a punch in MOOLOOLABA on SATURDAY night.

Police will allege just after midnight- in a car park on PARKYN PARADE, two men became involve in a verbal altercation.

During the argument the 19-year old from the Pelican Waters was allegedly punched, causing him to lose consciousness and fall to the ground.

He suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police have since charged a 22-year old Shailer Park man with assault and obstruct police- he’s due in court next month.

Intrust Super Cup

Round 21 of the Intrust Super Cup went our way on SATURDAY- with the Sunshine Coast FALCONS putting on an impressive display against Central Queensland.

The clash with the Capras was in ROCKHAMPTON- with the FALCONS securing a 44-26 point win.

The victory secures the FALCONS a finals berth.
