Do men get PMS?

Do men get PMS? I’m sure if you asked my wife, she would shout YES before you could even think about googling it! And in case you have, you’ll have already found that Cosmopolitan have declared it’s actually a thing! Apparently men do get PMS! Experts have coined it IMS (Irritable Male Syndrome)

“Of course, men don’t actually have the lovely bonafide PMS related to preparing the uterus and egg for fertilization. But some go through what’s called the male PMS: “IMS” (Irritable Male Syndrome). This can be attributed to men experiencing a drop in testosterone, the hormone that gives them their mojo. Their IMS can happen at anytime, as testosterone levels fluctuate during the day, but they tend to be highest during the morning and drop as the day goes on.”

What? Men get PMS everyday? Don’t get too carried away, of course they don’t! It’s far more unpredictable than that. While it can’t be nailed down to a daily/monthly occurrence, it’s helpful to understand that men aren’t immune to the old “that time of month” trick and might just need a little understanding.

In fact, there are perfectly good reasons why we might be experiencing an unusual mood swing. Many men are better at containing their emotions than others so we must give credit where credit is due.

Here are some things to keep in mind.

He may have too much stress at work
He has feelings too, for example, he might feel hungry (feel free to get him a low carb snack when he’s in one of those moods)
He may need to wee, or perhaps worse
He might be tired
He might have a sore tummy
He might have been charging his phone for an hour and realised it wasn’t plugged in
You might not have laughed at one of his jokes
He might have been telling a story and nobody was listening
As you can see the list could go on, and as funny as it all may sound, the ‘male period’ may be a very real, medically recognised phenomenon—albeit without the definitive monthly period bleed that women go through.

Ladies, next time the man in your life is “being an asshole” don’t tell him, and be cautious about verbally blaming it on “that time of the month” because that might just make matters worse. You know how it is, right? Remember that time he was breathing loudly and a little whistle was coming from his nose? Remember how it annoyed the crap out of you for ages until you just told him to get out of the room? Unless you’re 100% innocent then it might pay to wait it out for a bit. You know, like he does. What? He doesn’t? What an asshole.

Anyway girls, just remind yourself: It’s perfectly reasonable to feel frustration when the TV remote is no where to be found. Cut him some slack, as he probably does for you when it’s your turn.

Men, if your lady has sent you this link, it’s likely that you’ve recently demonstrated a brief bout of PMS. If you haven’t already, kick yourself in the vagina and get over it! Otherwise no sexy time for however long she says!
